The joy of writing!

I've never really thought much about what role writing has played in my life until I started thinking about how much I use it each and every day. In my current job, I have a co worker that is from Italy! She has been living in the US for the last couple of years and we talk about the difficulties of learning a new language. With learning a new language, we not only have to learn how to speak, but we learn how to read and write in that language. My coworker talks about how it is a lot more difficult to write in the English language, than speak, so each day, we take time to practice writing professional emails and spell different words she has questions about.
I believe this has helped me improve my writing skills, because I am now a little bit more cautious of not using too much slang or shortening my words when I spell. A lot of times, the way we write, does not sound like the way we talk. I want you to think about how you use writing in your daily life and if you think you write exactly how you speak. I think for me, it just depends on what I am writing. If I am sending a text, I tend to use slang and shorten my words, but if I am sending my boss an email, I make sure to read it a couple of times before I send it. I am more aware and cautious of grammatical errors. If you are not the biggest fan of writing, I encourage you to work on it each day just for a couple of minutes. I promise you there are great benefits when we exercise our brains and write each day!
